Lakeland wrestlers prep for West Regional

Athletics - posted on 2/28/2013

The Lakeland College wrestling team will be competing with individual berths to the NCAA Division III Championships on the line at the Division III West Regional Saturday hosted by Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn.

Nine Muskie wrestlers will compete at the regional, which gets underway at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall at 9 a.m. The top three finishers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lakeland's lineup for the day will be:
125 lbs.: Grant Franson (Jr.-Lindenhurst, Ill.)
133: Eduardo Orihuela (So.-Menominee, Mich.)
141: Marcus McCauley (Fr.-Hillpoint, Wis.)
149: Jake Maechtle (So.-Port Washington, Wis.)
157: Matt Weber (So.-Lockport, Ill.)
174: Wesley Colton (Fr.-Machesney Park, Ill.)
184: Eddie Terres (Fr.-Escanaba, Mich.)
197: Jeremy Kroeger (So.-Oak Lawn, Ill.)
285: Andy Crivellone (So.-Oak Lawn, Ill.)

McCauley, Weber and Kroeger all have topped 20 individual wins this season for the Muskies. Terres was the Northern Wrestling Association champion at 184 lbs.

"We are excited for the opportunity to compete at the West Regional," said Lakeland Head Coach Mike DeRoehn. "We have a handful of wrestlers such as McCauley, Weber, and Kroeger who have won over 20 matches this year and proven they can compete. I like that we no longer have wildcard entries. Place top three in your weight class and you automatically qualify for NCAA's. We have the guys to do it, it's up to them to stay on the attack, execute their best skills at the right time and break through."

An information page on the regional provided by Augsburg, including schedules, results, and video links, can be found here. Augsburg will be providing live video of semifinal and championship matches at each weight.
