Athletics - posted on 3/19/2013

Lakeland College senior men's basketball player Jake Schwarz (Sheboygan, Wis.) has been selected to compete in the Reese's Division III College All-Star Game, to be played Saturday, March 23 in Salem, Va.

Schwarz will be one of 18 NCAA Division III seniors to play in the game, which will be contested at the Salem Civic Center at 2:30 p.m. Central time on Saturday, prior to the Division III men's basketball championship semifinal games. Fans can watch the game online at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/.

The teams are comprised of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division III nominated by coaches and selected by a panel of coaches representing each region. Schwarz will be a member of the East All-Star Team and is the lone member of the team from Wisconsin.

Schwarz finished his Muskie career this season by setting the Lakeland men's basketball all-time scoring record with 2,199 points. He also was named the Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Year and completed his career as the NAC leader in points, rebounds, field goals made and free throws made. Schwarz led Lakeland to the Northern Athletics Conference North Division regular season title and a berth in the NAC Tournament championship game.

A complete list of participants in the game can be found here. The game is sponsored by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and is conducted by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Schwarz also added another honor to his list of postseason awards on Monday when he was named an NABC All-Midwest District selection. Schwarz was one of six players named to the first team in the Midwest, one of eight Division III districts.

It is the second time in his career that Schwarz has received all-district honors from the NABC and the first time he was named to the first team. Last year, Schwarz was named second team all-district.
