- ABOUT LAKELAND
Lakeland College offers an aviation curriculum designed to take students from little or no aeronautical knowledge to professional pilots in the aviation industry. The program allows students to acquire pilot certificates and a major course of study aimed at expanding their knowledge into and beyond aviation sciences.
A bachelor's degree has become an industry standard for those who wish to pursue careers in high-level aviation occupations. Lakeland has organized the educational plan for its flight students to match the demands of the aviation industry. Students will complete flight courses while pursuing a degree in one of Lakeland College's premier courses of study. At graduation, students will have acquired their flight certificates in addition to a bachelor's degree.
To attain a high-level career as a pilot, individuals must gain flight proficiency, but also acquire leadership skills. Lakeland's core liberal arts program develops abilities such as critical thinking, judgment, reflection, problem solving, communication and other skills which are central to leadership. Aviation companies are interested in pilots who can lead flight crews and make time-critical judgments. Lakeland's aviation program allows students to expand their abilities beyond technical skills to take on leadership roles in their future career.
Lakeland is the only four-year college in Wisconsin which offers a professional flight-training program. The aviation curriculum requires 31 credits of coursework, which includes ground school courses at Lakeland's main campus and flight training at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport. Flight training is conducted out of the Aviation Heritage Center, which is a non-profit organization with a central mission of aviation education. The partnerships centered on this program make for a unique and powerful educational experience for those who wish to take flight.
