Muskies defeat UW-La Crosse behind Thousand and Steinert

The Lakeland women’s basketball team received outstanding performances by sophomore Connie Thousand and Tip-Off Classic Most Valuable Player Renee Steinert to lead the Muskies past UW-LaCrosse, 60-49, on Saturday.

Thousand came off the bench for the Muskies to lead the team with 21 points and 7 rebounds, while Steinert, Lake Michigan Conference’s preseason Player of the Year, scored 15 and also grabbed 7 boards.

Down for much of the game, the Muskies stormed back midway through the second half to take the lead, and carried the momentum through the end.

Leslie Matson poured in 17 points and snatched 10 rebounds, and Katy Searing scored 12 and tallied 16 rebounds for the Eagles.

Shawna Koss and Jana Merchlewitz received All-Tournament honors for LaCrosse, and Kristi Thill joined Steinert on the All-Tournament team for the Muskies.

The Muskies, now 2-0, will travel to Rockford on Tuesday night for their next game.
