Lakeland Men's Basketball Team Regionally Ranked for First Time Since 2002-03 Season

Athletics - posted on 2/8/2006

The Lakeland men's basketball team appeared in the NCAA's Division III regional basketball rankings this week for the first time since they received an honorable mention ranking on Feb. 2 during the 2002-03 season.

Lakeland is ranked sixth out of eight teams in the Midwest Region by the NCAA, which released the first of four weekly regional rankings on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Lakeland, 18-5 overall and 14-3 against other teams in the Midwest Region, is listed ahead of North Central (Ill.) and Washington University in Saint Louis. North Central is currently ranked #15 in the D-III Coaches Poll. Lawrence owns the top spot in the Midwest Region followed by Augustana (Ill.), Transylvania (Ind.), Carroll and Illinois Wesleyan.

The number of ranked teams in each region is determined by the number of teams in each region. The following criteria are used to evaluate teams for this ranking: in-region winning percentage, in-region head-to-head play, in-region common opponents and an in-region quality-of-wins index.

Lakeland, 12-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference, clinched the final regular season LMC title with an 85-56 victory at Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Muskies will close out the regular season on Saturday when they host MSOE at 4:15 p.m.
