Athletics - posted on 12/11/2004

The Edgewood Eagles, led by 24 points and 11 rebounds from Nickie Updike, gave the Lakeland women’s basketball team its first regular season conference loss in almost two years on Saturday, 60-54.

Updike sealed the game for Edgewood by racing down the court on an outlet pass after Lakeland pulled within four with just 23 seconds remaining.

The Muskies, who only got four points off their bench, were led by Renee Steinert’s 22 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked four shots.

Jordane Kittoe poured in 14 to help Edgewood upset Lakeland.

The loss broke a 19-game Lake Michigan Conference regular season winning streak that dated back to January 28, 2003.

The Muskies travel west to face UW-River Falls on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
