Muskies stifled by Blugolds, take second place

A night after shooting the lights out on the same floor, the Lakeland men’s basketball team struggled on their way to a 64-46 loss in the championship game of the Eau Claire Holiday Tournament to the host UW-Eau Claire Blugolds.

Nick Zeck led all scorers with 21 points for the Muskies, but no other player scored in double digits. Kris Saiberlich did not score a point for Lakeland after leading all scorers the night before with 17.

Down by 10 at half, the Muskies tried to keep it close, but could not stop the UWEC, who shot 60 percent from the field in the second half.

The previous night, Lakeland scored a tournament record 59 points in the first half against St. Olaf en route to a 95-80 win but could not find the same touch in this game.

The Muskies, now 4-7 on the season, travel to Mequon to resume conference play against Concordia on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
