Field set for Lakeland’s “Play With Grace” tournament

Athletics - posted on 11/12/2004

Two state league teams and an old rival to the north will join the host Muskies for the fourth annual “Play With Grace” Tip-Off Tournament, Nov. 19-20, at Lakeland College.

The tournament opens on Friday the 19th with Lakeland facing the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 6 p.m., followed by UW-La Crosse playing St. Norbert at approximately 8 p.m.

Saturday, Superior plays St. Norbert at 2 p.m., followed by Lakeland playing La Crosse at approximately 4 p.m.

Lakeland won the “Play With Grace” title in 2001 and 2002, and UW-Oshkosh won the title last November.

The tournament is inspired by the memory of Grace Bouche, mother of Lakeland assistant coach and athletic director Jane Bouche, who lost a courageous battle with cancer in December of 1999. All proceeds from the tournament are donated to charity.

Lakeland is coming off a 22-6 finish a year ago that included the Muskies’ sixth Lake Michigan Conference title in seven seasons and fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in six seasons.

St. Norbert was 16-9 last season and finished second in the Midwest Conference at 13-3.

Superior was 10-16 a year ago, 4-12 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while La Crosse finished 9-16, 3-13 in the WIAC.
