Muskies tabbed LMC favorite, Steinert top player
Athletics - posted on 11/11/2004
Six times in the last seven seasons, the Lakeland College women’s basketball team has won the Lake Michigan Conference title.
In the 2004-05 preseason LMC poll, released today, it’s clear the league’s women’s basketball coaches think it will be more of the same this winter.
The Muskies, led by preseason Player of the Year Renee Steinert, were picked as the favorite in the LMC.
The announcements were part of LMC Basketball Media Day, held at Milwaukee School of Engineering’s new Kern Center.
Steinert, a senior center from Howards Grove, was joined on the women’s preseason all-LMC team by sophomore forward Jenna Boehm (Green Bay).
The Lakeland women earned seven first-place votes and 63 total points. Edgewood was picked second in the eight-team league, followed by Wisconsin Lutheran, Concordia, MSOE, Marian, Maranatha Baptist and league-newcomer Alverno.
“We understand how we’re always on the receiving end of everybody’s best game,” said Lakeland head coach April Arvan, who is entering her 11th season. “With that in perspective, we have to play as hard and as well as we can.”
