The Lakeland Muskies cruised past Northland Baptist Bible College, 82-57, on Thursday evening at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium located on the Lakeland campus.
"They really battled us for the whole 40 minutes," said Lakeland head coach Kyle Brumett. "We are happy with the win and we did some good things. We shot the ball well in the second half from two-point range (54 percent) and the first half from three-point range (59 percent)."
The Muskies (3-4, 2-1 NAC), who shot 49 percent from the field for the contest, went on a 8-0 run within first minute of the game. The Pioneers (5-7) battled back to go up by as many as five points with 6:50 remaining in the first half. The Muskies then took control to go up 22-21 just a few minutes later and kept the lead for the remainder of the game, including leading the Pioneers 43-25, at the half.
Lakeland continued to roll in the second half, going up by as many as 32 points in the game. The Muskies had eight players come off the bench to play, finishing the game with a 24 point lead.
Senior guard Kris Saiberlich had another sensational game for the Muskies. He led the Muskies in scoring with 27 points, 25 of which came in first half of the contest. He also nailed seven 3-point shots in the game to tie his career high.
"Kris had a pretty amazing first half," said Brumett. "We've really been waiting for him to shoot it like that, and he has been for the last three games. He is capable of having nights like that. It has been a long time since I've coached a guy that has had 25 points in a half."
Freshman forward Trevor McKown also had a stellar game in his first start for the Muskies with a career high 11 points.
"I felt like Trevor took advantage of his opportunity in his first start," said Brumett. "He had 11 points and five rebounds."
The Muskies also had a great night on the boards, out-rebounding the Pioneers 48-28. Senior Danny Ehnert paced Muskies' defense with seven rebounds.
"It was great team effort and everyone contributed," said Brumett.
The Muskies will go on the road to Watertown to face Northern Athletics Conference foe Maranatha on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
