The Lakeland College men's basketball team dropped its final regular season Northern Athletics Conference contest of the season to top-ranked Aurora University, 85-73, on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Aurora, Ill.
With the loss the Muskies fall to 10-8 in the NAC, which gives them the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament. The quarterfinal round begins on Tuesday, Feb. 26, where Lakeland is set to face No. 3 Wisconsin Lutheran College on the road.
The Muskies (14-11, 10-8 NAC) fell behind the Spartans from the beginning and were never quite able to make a strong enough offensive stand to chip away at Aurora's lead, which was boosted by five double-digit scorers.
Senior guard Kris Saiberlich led Lakeland with 20 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, followed by fellow senior guard Shane Grube with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior forward David Hoerres was the only other Muskie to crack the 10 point barrier, as he shot 5-for-7.
Although the Muskies shot a respectable 44 percent from the field for the game, the Spartans upped the ante with a 50 percent effort from the floor and shot a blistering 46 percent from behind the arc. Lakeland also lost the battle from the free throw line, shooting a woeful 50 percent.
Tip-off time at Wisconsin Lutheran is set for 7 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
