The Lakeland College men's volleyball team is ranked No. 20 in the nation in the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association's preseason Division I poll.
Last season, playing at the NIRSA Division I level for the first time, Lakeland finished 21st in the 48-team national tournament. The Division I tournament includes the top 48 programs in the country, regardless of size.
Lakeland, the smallest school to complete in Division I, finished last season 33-19 after finishing second in the nation in Division II in 2003. The Muskies were second in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference State Tournament last season.
The Muskies open this season on Sunday, Jan. 23, with a 1 p.m. match against UW-Platteville.
