Smith and Plautz Named MVP’s at Soccer Awards Banquet

Amanda Smith and Briana Plautz received the highest honors for the 2004 season during the annual Lakeland College women's soccer team banquet Sunday.
Smith, a senior forward from Neenah, was named Team MVP and the most outstanding offensive player. Plautz, a junior back from Green Bay was named Defensive MVP for the Muskies. The women finished 12-8 and finished 2nd in the LMC with a 6-1 conference mark.
Smith capped off an outstanding four-year career by scoring 33 goals and adding 5 assists. She was named 1st Team All-Lake Michigan Conference for the fourth consecutive season and was the LMC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Smith finished as the school's all time leading goal scorer with 97 goals, breaking the previous mark of 88 by Meghan Wudtke (2000-2003)
Plautz, an All-Lake Michigan Conference performer, anchored the Muskies defense and led the team with 7 assists.
Elisa Waltz, a freshman back from Oakfield, received the Coach's Award for dedication and team spirit for the women. Freshmen forward Marie Reynolds (Fond du Lac) and defender Kelly Hopfinger (Hustisford) were honored as 1st Team All-LMC performers. Reynolds, Hopfinger, and Appleton native Laura Engel were all named to the LMC All-Rookie team.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin) and junior forward Ann Lehecka (McHenry, Illinois) were honored for being named to the Honorable Mention All-LMC team.
