Lakeland College senior forward Renee Steinert was named Lake Michigan Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.
Steinert, a Howards Grove native and Sheboygan Lutheran High School graduate, averaged 15.1 points (fourth in the LMC), 10.1 rebounds (first), 2.9 blocks (first) and 1.9 assists in conference games this season.
Steinert finished her career with 1,227 points, good for fifth all-time on Lakeland’s scoring list. She is the seventh player in Lakeland women’s basketball history to join the program’s 1,000-point club.
Joining Steinert of the 10-player first team was senior guard Sara Langenhorst of Ripon. Junior Beth Porter (St. Charles, Ill.) was an honorable mention honoree, and freshman Brenda Paulson (Clayton) was named to the five-player all-rookie team.
Lakeland finished league play in second place, and lost to LMC champ Edgewood in the LMC Tournament championship game. Edgewood’s Nickie Updike was Rookie of the Year and first-year coach Bobbi Endress of Edgewood was named Coach of the Year.
