Muskies pick up road win in conference dual opener

The Lakeland wrestling team returned to action on Wednesday night after a 15-day layoff, shaking off the rust for a 38-9 victory at Concordia Wisconsin in the Muskies' Northern Wrestling Association opener.

"We wrestled hard and wrestled the way we are capable of," Lakeland head coach Pete Rogers said. "I'm really proud of the way a lot of our guys fought tonight."

Senior David Copp (Oostburg) scored an impressive at 125 pounds. Copp pinned the Falcons' Kurt Kemnitz in the third period, pushing his record for the season to 4-2.

At 285 pounds, junior Adam Sutter remained undefeated at 6-0 for the season. The Gladstone, Mich., native posted a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Jason Lawrence of Concordia Wisconsin (0-2).

The Muskies (2-4) recorded pins in three of the last four individual matches, with senior J.D. Sylvanus (Johnsburg, Ill.) coming from behind to pin Erik Lawrence at 5:37 in the 184-pound match.

Lakeland heads to Milwaukee this Saturday for the MSOE Invite, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
