Muskies in 10th place entering final day of Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational

Four Muskies remain in contention with perfect records after the first day of the Pete Willson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.

Ben Chapman (157), Jake Frias (164), Ryan Renon (174) and Adam Sutter each won their first two matches as the Lakeland wrestling team sits in 12th place out of 30 teams with 20.5 points.

Chapman won a pair of 5-0 and 3-1 decisions against  Zach Holland of Augustana and Tommy Fehring from Mount St. Joseph. He opens tomorrow against 3rd ranked and 1st seeded Jesse Milks from UW-Platteville.

Frias, the 5th seeded wrestler at 165 pounds, knocked off Tim Pope of Mount St. Joseph 4-1 in his first match before defeating Graham Youngs from Wabash 8-4. He faces fourth seed Matt Gille of UW-Parkside in his third match of the tournament.

Renon defeated eighth-seeded Mike Manypenny of Mt. Union 7-4 and scored a major decision with a 16-4 victory against Mike Frasure from Muskingum. He faces top seed Luke Rynish of UW-Parkside to open competition tomorrow.

Sutter, the four seed at 285 and ranked fifth in the nation, needed just 29 seconds to pin Joe  Pitsch of UW-Eau Claire. He followed by pinning Derick Hesson of Mt. Union in 5:51. He faces fifth seed Lovde Braidlow of Truman State ahead of a possible match against top-ranked Dan Laurent.

Ricardo Rosas (141) and Isaac Roberson (149) each scored a win and a loss in action Friday.
