SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's basketball team was defeated 69-63 by Beloit in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

After winning three straight games, the Muskies (4-5 overall, 3-1 Northern Athletics Conference) have lost two straight heading into a two-week break.

Beloit (3-5), which had four players score in double figures, shot 56 percent in the second half and converted 17-of-27 free throws compared to just 6-of-8 for Lakeland.

After playing to a 30-30 tie in the first half, neither team led by more than five points until the Buccaneers made a 9-0 run to take a 58-52 advantage with 3:05 remaining in the game.

Lakeland had taken the lead temporarily at 52-49 after a 3-point play by junior Trevor McKown (Hot Springs, S.D.), who finished with nine points and four rebounds, at the 5:56 mark.

The Muskies narrowed the deficit to one after sophomore forward Jake Schwarz made a layup with 36 seconds left. However, after Beloit converted 1-of-2 free throws on the other end, Lakeland turned it over and was forced to foul the rest of the way.

Schwarz (Sheboygan, Wis.) led the Muskies with a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half, and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Josh Regal (Suring, Wis.) struggled shooting from the field but tallied 14 points, eight assists and four steals. Senior Khendal Andrews (Kankakee, Ill.) posted nine points on a trio of 3-pointers.

Lakeland shot 42.6 percent for the contest, while Beloit shot 46 percent. The Buccaneers' bench outscored the Muskies' reserves 19-6.

The Muskies resume action on Sunday, Jan.3, against Cornell (Iowa). Tip-off at Woltzen Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
