Lakeland drops three-game home stand finale

SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's basketball team suffered a 65-60 defeat against MSOE in a Northern Athletics Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies (7-10 overall, 4-5 NAC), who have now lost five of their last six games, shot 38.5 percent from the floor in the second half and made just 10-of-17 from the free throw line for the contest.

Lakeland took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game, 41-40, after a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Josh Regal with 16:04 to play.

After sophomore forward Jake Schwarz tied the score at 46-46, MSOE (10-7, 5-4) went on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 57-46 advantage with 6:39 to go.

The Raiders, who held a 36-31 advantage at the half, shot 52 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range in the game, compared to just 42 percent and 33 percent (8-for-24) for the Muskies.

Lakeland, which forced 17 MSOE turnovers, was led by Schwarz (Sheboygan, Wis.), who posted his sixth double-double of the year with a 20-point, 11-rebound effort. Regal (Suring, Wis.) pitched in with 17 points, including four 3-pointers.

MSOE jumped out to a 13-5 lead just over four minutes into the game after consecutive 3-pointers, forcing Lakeland to use a timeout. The Muskies narrowed the advantage to two at the 13:54 mark after Schwarz knocked down a 3.

Lakeland begins a three-game road swing Thursday against Maranatha Baptist at 7 p.m.
