Muskie Spotlight - Allison Davis
Athletics - posted on 10/12/2009
Lakeland women's volleyball coach Chad Schreiber saw what Allison Davis is capable of in the championship match of last season's Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.
Davis, a sophomore middle hitter, consistently showed her
capabilities recently, tallying 30 kills while leading the Muskies in hitting percentage (.387) and blocks (eight) in three conference matches last week.
In Lakeland's 27-25, 25-20, 25-23 win at Concordia Chicago on Saturday, Davis recorded 10 kills, hitting an eye-opening .529 for the contest. She has committed just one attack error in her last two matches.
"Allison has had better spacing and better contact on the ball in the last few matches we've played," Schreiber said. "She's very athletic, so now that her mechanics are under control, her athleticism can take over."
The Sheboygan, Wis., native posted 10 kills in the Muskies' four-set victory over Concordia, Wis., in the 2008 NAC Championship match despite receiving inconsistent playing time off the bench during the regular season.
Now a starter, Davis has 124 kills and a team-high 48 blocks for the 2009 season.
"We saw glimpses of greatness from Allison last year in the conference tournament, but now we're seeing it with regularity," Schreiber said.
Davis is majoring in education and is also a member of the Lakeland women's basketball team.
