Muskie Spotlight - Kaylyn Kasper
Athletics - posted on 11/3/2009
Kaylyn Kasper's statistics from last weekend don't necessarily jump off the page, but her impact on the Lakeland women's volleyball team's success certainly drew raves.
In four matches at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, Kasper, a senior right side hitter, finished with 22 kills, 45 digs and 16 blocks to help the Muskies finish with a 2-2 record at one of the most competitive tournaments of the season.
Following the weekend, coach Chad Schreiber called Kasper's two-day performance "the best of her career" at right side.
"Kaylyn is getting confident in her setting and is hitting the shots we've asked her to," Schreiber said. "She gives us offense from the back row and her blocking is getting better with every match."
For the season, Kasper, a Hilbert, Wis., native, sits in the top four on the team in kills (194), service aces (21), digs (262) and blocks (48).
In one of her better matches of the season, Kasper recorded 12 kills with a .440 hitting percentage and eight digs in a three-set victory at Concordia Chicago on Oct. 10.
She also posted 29 digs, the fourth-highest total in a match in school history, on Sept. 25 at Wheaton.
Kasper is majoring in biology with a minor in education, and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Colleges Against Cancer.
