Junior Erin Cepa (Glenview, Ill.) had 16 points off the bench to lead the Lakeland College women's basketball team to a dominating 73-53 road victory over Maranatha Baptist Bible College Tuesday night.

The game was never in question as Lakeland would take a 3-0 lead on their second possession and would not trail, being tied only twice at 3-3 and 6-6. The Muskies shot 53.6 percent in the first half including shooting 60 percent from behind the arc. On the defensive end, Lakeland held the Crusaders to just 37.9 percent shooting, 42.9 percent from behind the arc.

"This was a good, complete win for us," said Lakeland head coach Teri Johnson. "We came out slow and struggled defensively in the first half. Fortunately we were able to clean up our defense and were more aggressive in the second half which allowed us to pull away."

Sophomore Becky Mayo (Gladstone, Mich.) was the second leading scorer with 10 points, including going 4-4 from the free throw line. Senior Mary Dennewitz (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Aimee Thrune (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) each added eight points. Cepa had a team high seven rebounds while junior's Mallory Magee (Stockton, Ill.) and Becca Paulson (Clayton, Wis.) had six each.

"We had the opportunity to get everyone in the game tonight," said Johnson. "We were balanced on offense and everyone contributed. It was a great team effort."

Crusaders guard Autumn Peotter had a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Lakeland resumes play Saturday, December 4, when they return home to face the Dominican University Stars. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
