Roberson, Renon take first place at Dan Gable Open

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Isaac Roberson and Ryan Renon took first place at 157 and 165, respectively in the Dan Gable Open Sunday afternoon at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh, Wis.

Roberson and Renon led the Muskies in a seven- team highly competitive open, highlighted by Division I No. 3 ranked University of Wisconsin-Madison. Other top schools included Division III No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, Division II No. 2 ranked St. Cloud State (Minn.) and No. 15 ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Renon, a sophomore from Wrightstown, Wis., earned the 2-1 decision in the championship match over UW-Madison's Ben Cox. He rolled pasted Dan Schiferl of UW-Oshkosh, 9-2 and earned a quarterfinal bye.

Roberson, a senior from Chicago, Ill., beat Mike Magawa of UW-Parkside, 9-4, in the championship match. He earned a 12-8 decision over Trevor Dryreson (UW-Oshkosh) in the semi-finals and had the 14-3 major decision over Jerry Wanty (UW-Oshkosh) in the quarterfinals.

Junior Robby Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) took third-placed at 141 and registered a 10-6 win over Cullan Morrissey of St. Cloud State.

Freshman Jacob Bugajski (Chicago, Ill.) placed second at 149, before falling in the finals to Nazar Kulchystkyy of UW-Oshkosh. Bugajski earned the 12-3 major decision over Dylan Riley(UW-Oshkosh) in the semi-finals.

At 174, junior Miguel Luis (Oak Lawn, Ill.) placed fourth after falling 7-3 in the third-place match to James Dederich (UW-Oshkosh).

No team scores were taken at the open.

The grapplers return to action as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa, in a re-scheduled dual on Saturday, Jan. 22.
