Muskies soar past Eagles

Junior Josh Regal and freshman Tim Rotruck each scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Lakeland College men's basketball team to a convincing 92-83 win over Edgewood College Thursday night in the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gym.

The Muskies (12-8, 7-5 NAC) used a second half run sparked by Rotruck to wear down the Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the first National Collegiate Athletics Association Division III Midwest rankings.

In the first half the Muskies were sluggish and were out rebounded 19-10, but shot an impressive 51.9 percent to keep them in the game. Josh Regal (Suring, Wis.) hit a buzzer-beater 3-pointer just be half to give Lakeland the momentum heading into the locker room.

The game was an up and down battle as the lead changed 10 times, before Lakeland eventually went on a string of runs in the second half to secure the conference win. The Muskies took the final lead when Rotruck (Milwaukee) hit a jumper with 15:06 left in the game. Edgewood cut the lead to as little as one, but the hot-shooting Muskies proved too much.

Junior guard Jack Ridgway (Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted 13 points to go along with two rebounds. Defensively he shut down Edgewood's leading scorer, Ben Wisniewski. Junior guard Bobby Komorowski (Germantown, Wis.) added 10 points and four steals. Junior forward Germell Heard (Milwaukee) made his presence known on the court, adding eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

Both Lakeland and Edgewood ended the game shooting over 50 percent from the field. The Muskies, however, shot 62.5 percent from behind the arc and 81.5 percent from the free throw line to have the edge over the Eagles.

Regal ended with night a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range and posted a team-high six assists.

Kent Faurote led Edgewood with 26 points and five rebounds.

Lakeland returns to NAC action on Saturday, Feb. 5, as they travel to Lisle, Ill. to take on Benedictine University. Tipoff is slated for 4:15 p.m.
