Muskies preparing for 2011-12 season

Athletics - posted on 10/21/2011

The Lakeland College women's basketball team has started its 2011-12 season with the first practices of the season.

First-year head coach Lindsey VandeHoef has the team working hard to learn a new system and play fundamental basketball. Last year, the Muskies finished in sixth place in the Northern Athletics Conference North Division with a 6-12 record, 9-15 overall.

The Muskies will look to some new faces to lead the team, as they lost their top three scorers from last season. Lakeland has five seniors who are ready to lead this young, talented team to its goal of winning a NAC championship.

Senior guard Erin Cepa (Glenview, Ill.) is the team's top returning scorer from a year ago averaging 7.3 points per game. Fellow seniors Alyssa Schuttenhelm (Waterford, Wis.) and Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.) return as the team's leading rebounders, each pulling in 84 last season, averaging 3.7 and 4.7 respectively.
