After compiling a 1-1 record and breaking a couple of records at the 37th annual Purple and Gold Tournament in Defiance, Ohio, on Dec. 29-30, the Lakeland College men's basketball team returns home to host two non-conference contests before hitting the road on Saturday.
The Muskies (6-3, 3-1 NAC) host the Lumberjacks of Northland College tonight and then host the Lions of Finlandia University tomorrow. Both games are slated for a 7:15 p.m. tip in Woltzen Gym as part of doubleheaders with the women's basketball team.
On Saturday, the team returns to Northern Athletics Conference action as they take on Rockford College in Rockford, Ill. The Regents currently sit in first place in the NAC South Division and look to avenge an 85-76 setback to Lakeland last year.
Although the Muskies fell short of a tournament championship in Defiance, they managed to break and tie a few records. On Dec. 29, Lakeland tied an 18-year-old tournament record by making 16 3-point shots. The Muskies made six of their first nine shots from behind the arc to tie the record.
On Dec. 30, junior Jake Schwarz finished 17-for-17 from the free throw line, and was 20-for-22 in the two-day tournament. He set tournament records for free throws made in a game and a tournament, and tied tournament records for free throws attempted in a game and a tournament.
