This week in women's basketball

Athletics - posted on 1/9/2012

This week, the Lakeland College women's basketball team has just one game, a Northern Athletics Conference North Division showdown with Edgewood College.

Last week, the Muskies went 3-0, extending their winning streak to five games. In their first game after the winter break, Lakeland defeated Northland College, 62-60, on a last second lay-up to cap a huge comeback. The Muskies were led by senior Allison Davis who scored a career-high with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting while also grabbing eight rebounds. Davis followed that performance with her first double-double of the season (14 points, 11 rebounds) the following game against Finlandia University, a 67-37 Lakeland victory. Lakeland then got a much-needed conference victory over Rockford College, 84-75, as sophomore Jessica Genke had 17 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Muskies.

In the Rockford contest, the Muskies broke a team single-game record as they hit all 19 free throws they attempted, breaking the previous mark of .947 set in 2002. Senior Becca Tilleman also set the single-game assists record against the Regents with 12. It broke the school record of 11 set by Casey Thousand in 2001. Tilleman is currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division III with a 2.45 assist-turnover ratio and is in the top 20 with 5.5 assists per game.
