This week in women's basketball

Athletics - posted on 1/31/2012

This week, the Lakeland College women's basketball team opens on the road against Northern Athletics Conference North Division leading Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Muskies return home on Saturday, Feb. 4, as they host Benedictine University in a NAC cross-division game.

Last week, the Muskies went 2-0 with wins over Alverno College (66-55) and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (86-69). Lakeland was led by sophomores Aimee Thrune (Prairie Du Sac, Wis.) and Jessica Genke (Kiel, Wis.). Thrune averaged 12 points and tallied seven assists while shooting 46 percent from the field and 50 percent (4-for-8) from the 3-point line. Thrune had a career-high 20 points in the win over MSOE. Genke averaged 10 points and 8.5 rebounds, while recording three blocks and three steals.

The Muskies enter the week percentage points ahead of Marian University for third place in the NAC North and will be looking to solidify that spot as teams begin to look toward the conference tournament in late February.
