This week in men's volleyball

Athletics - posted on 3/27/2012

This week, the Lakeland College men's volleyball team closes Wisconsin Volleyball Conference play as the Muskies travel to Oshkosh, Wis., to face UW-Oshkosh. Lakeland then returns to Oshkosh to take part in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31.

The Muskies (18-14, 6-5 WVC) have been on an impressive run, beginning with a 3-1 victory over Marquette University in Lakeland's return from spring break. The Muskies carried that momentum into the MIVA Championships where they went 6-2 in the two-day event, falling in the semifinals of the gold bracket to UW-Oshkosh.

On day one of the Championships, the Muskies suffered a 1-2 loss to Ohio State before winning their next three matches against Central Michigan (2-0), Purdue (2-1) and Iowa (2-1). Once in the gold bracket, Lakeland found a new level of play, sweeping both Adrian College and Cincinnati, before defeating No. 8 Indiana University in three games, 2-1. The third time wasn't the charm in the semifinals, as UW-Oshkosh swept Lakeland and went on to defeat Notre Dame for the title.

The Muskies hope to continue their solid play and gain momentum heading into Nationals.
