The Lakeland College men's tennis team has been picked to finish seventh in the Northern Athletics Conference preseason coaches' poll released Monday.
The Muskies, who finished eighth in the NAC last year with a 2-7 record, 2-9 overall, totaled 40 points.
Defending NAC tournament champion Concordia University Wisconsin has been tabbed to finish first with five first-place votes and 93 points. The Milwaukee School of Engineering was selected to finish second with five first-place votes and 92 points.
"Our team is excited to start the season," said head coach Casey Carr. "We are still a young team, but I like our attitude and body language in practices. I have stressed to the guys to just play free because we have nothing to lose. If we can keep the ball in play and allow our opponents to make mistakes, then we can surprise a few teams this year."
The 2012 NAC Tournament takes place April 30 and May 4, with the tournament champion earning the conference's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA III Championship Tournament. The top six teams from the regular season conference standings qualify for the NAC Tournament.
