Benedictine tallies twice in second half to defeat Muskies

SHEBOYGAN - Benedictine University went ahead on a penalty kick midway through the second half and added a goal late to defeat the Lakeland College women's soccer team 3-1 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference match.

Tara Tarazoff converted the penalty kick in the 63rd minute as the Eagles improved to 4-0 in the NAC and 5-3-1 overall. Lakeland hung in throughout but dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

The Eagles scored the first goal of match just 5:01in as Nikki Jhanji found the back of the net with an assist from Tarazoff. The Muskies tied it in the 21st minute, though, as Hannah Landgraf (Sr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) scored unassisted for her 11th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

Benedictine took the lead on the penalty kick and then added on an insurance goal with 11:45 left in the match when Perla Chavez scored with an assist from Rachael Hodison.

The Eagles outshot the Muskies 25-11, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Landgraf, Kelly Jens (Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and Liz Pritzl (Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) combined for all of Lakeland's shots, with Landgraf firing six times, Jens taking three shots and Pritzl adding two.

Ali Thompson (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) made five saves in her first start in goal for Lakeland. Candace Rodgers made two saves in goal for the Eagles.

The Muskies return to play Thursday for a non-conference match at Northland International University at 4:30 p.m. in Dunbar, Wis
