The Lakeland College men's soccer team had little success against a strong opponent as the Muskies lost 4-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in a non-conference match Tuesday night.
The Pioneers scored twice in both the first and second halves to drop the Muskies to 1-2 this season. Included in UW-Platteville's scoring were two goals 1:22 apart in the first half to take control of the match.
William Pretto opened the scoring for UWP (5-1 overall) at 31:03 of the match, scoring on a rebound off the hands of Lakeland goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.). The Pioneers added another goal at 32:25 when Tenzin Tsenor scored unassisted to make the score 2-0.
The Muskies continued to trail by two goals into the 58th minute of the second half when Brandon Chmiel received a pass from Michael Prudisch and beat Piekarski one-on-one to make it 3-0. Platteville wrapped up the scoring at 64:34 when Chris Brown sent in a crossing pass from Mark Feltner for the match's final goal.
UW-Platteville dominated possession, outshooting the Muskies 26-4, including a 13-2 margin in shots on goal. Piekarski made nine saves in goal for Lakeland, while Ian Christensen made two saves for the shutout for the Pioneers.
Killian McKenzie (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis.) led the Muskies offensively with two shots, including one on goal. Daiya Akiyama (Sr.-Ichihara, Japan) and Alejandro Patnode Fonseca (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) both finished with one shot.
Lakeland returns to play Saturday when it hosts Rockford (Ill.) College in its Northern Athletics Conference opener at 3 p.m.
