LISLE, ILL. - The Lakeland College women's volleyball team has found the going tougher in Northern Athletics Conference play of late as the Muskies dropped a pair of matches this weekend on the road in Illinois.
Lakeland was defeated by Benedictine (Ill.) University in three sets on Saturday, falling in three close sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-21. The loss came less than 18 hours after the Muskies were defeated in four sets by Aurora (Ill.) University, winning the first set before falling in four sets 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19.
With the loss to Benedictine, Lakeland dropped to 12-7 overall, including 2-3 in the NAC. The Muskies also lost to an Aurora team they defeated earlier in the non-conference season and now have lost three matches in a row for the first time this season.
Lakeland hung tough against a strong Benedictine team that improved to 18-2 overall, including 5-0 in the NAC. Taylor Daus (Sr.-Bay Port, Wis.) recorded nine kills and a .280 attack percentage while Katie Freitag (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) and Anna Faust (Jr.-Cross Plains, Wis.) both added seven kills each.
Candice Cuppini led Benedictine with 13 kills and Nicole Adams added 11 kills. The Eagles hit .242 for the match with 48 kills to 17 errors in 128 attempts.
Lakeland committed 30 errors against Aurora as well as eight service errors, struggling for a second straight match after a loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College Tuesday night. The Muskies hit just .099 while Aurora (7-8 overall, 3-1 NAC) hit .209 with 47 kills and just 18 errors in 139 attempts.
Caleigh Galvan (Fr.-New Lenox, Ill.) led the Muskies with 11 kills while Daus added 10 kills and Freitag eight kills. Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) set the offense with 36 assists and Faust led the team with 24 digs.
Lakeland goes on the road Tuesday to face Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown at 7 p.m.
