PULASKI - The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point won eight of 10 matches Thursday night to defeat the Lakeland College wrestling team 40-7 in a dual held Thursday night at Pulaski High School.
The Muskies were led by Jacob Maechtle (So.-Port Washington, Wis.) and Eduardo Orihuela (So.-Menominee, Mich.), who scored the team's two wins. Maechtle won at 149 lbs., defeating Shane Sweeney by a score of 16-7 by major decision. Orihuela won by decision at 133 lbs., defeating Ryan Osse 5-3.
The Pointers controlled the remaining matches, winning three matches by fall and three more by decision. Lance Fabry defeated Alec Noa (Fr.-Westmont, Ill.) by a 7-1 decision at 125 lbs., and Jordan Kust won by major decision over Marcus McCauley (Fr.-Hillpoint, Wis.) at 141 lbs. Ben Strobel won by fall over Matt Weber (So.-Lockport, Ill.) at 157 lbs., and Vincent Cardarelle (So.-Saukville, Wis.) was defeated 4-0 at 165 lbs.
Stevens Point's Ryan Conat defeated Wesley Colton (Fr.-Machesney Park, Ill.) by fall at 2:33 at 174 lbs., and Jeremy Kroeger (So.-Villa Park, Ill.) lost by fall at Heavyweight to Jordan Koranda. Lakeland also did not enter wrestlers at 184 lbs. and 197 lbs., losing both matches by forfeit.
The Muskies will see UW-Stevens Point again on Saturday when they travel to Stevens Point for the Pointer Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
