Muskie wrestlers defeat Maranatha Baptist in conference dual

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Lakeland College wrestling team was victorious in eight of nine contested classes in a 41-3 dual win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College Monday night.

The Muskies won their first Northern Wrestling Association dual of the season, taking three matches by forfeit and picking up three of their other five wins on points. Lakeland improved to 4-2 in dual meets this season.

The Muskies picked up their lone wins by fall at 133 and 157 lbs. Matt Damp (Fr.-Oconto Falls, Wis.) took down Zach Zimmerman in the first period at 133 lbs., and Matthew Weber (So.-Lockport, Ill.) also recorded a first period pin at 157 lbs. against Oliver Klein.

Lakeland also received five points at 125 lbs., where Alec Noa (Fr.-Westmont, Ill.) defeated Ben Roohr by technical fall with a 16-0 victory. The Muskies also added a narrow 6-5 decision by Marcus McCauley (Fr.-Hillpoint, Wis.) at 149 lbs. over Ricky Warren, and Eddie Terres (Fr.-Escanaba, Mich.) added a 2-1 win over Jesse Gjefle at 184 lbs.

Lakeland also competed in the Cornell College Matman Wrestling Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where several Muskies took on a very competitive field of wrestlers.

McCauley won three matches at 141 lbs., opening with wins over Zach Becicka of Cornell and Sheldon Smith of Luther (Iowa) College before losing to eventual second-place finisher Beau Westpfahl of Coe (Iowa) College. He added a win in the wrestleback before being eliminated with his second loss.

Andy Crivellone (So.-Oak Lawn, Ill.) also made a run at 285 lbs., winning matches over Creighton Fox and Kirk Evans of Coe before losing to Jake Johnson of Luther in the quarterfinals and then losing his wrestleback match to Zachary Henaman of Wartburg (Iowa) College.

Lakeland will be home this weekend for the Lakeland Quadrangular, with matches to begin at noon in the Todd Wehr Fieldhouse
