Lakeland Men's Soccer Loses Overtime Thriller 2-1
Athletics - posted on 10/19/2004
Doebler Field in Kiel was a home away from home for Lakeland as they took on Lake Michigan Conference combatant Marian College. The Muskies battled for 109 minutes, conceding the game winning goal in the final minute of the second overtime. The Muskies fall to 6-10-1 overall and 2-3 in the LMC.
Marian got on the board first off in the 29th minute when they scored on a corner. Lakeland answered back on a great set piece goal in the 36th minute. On the play, Mike Gorack (Algonquin, Illinois) belted home a 24 yard set piece off a nice pass-touch from Kiel natives Scott Kress and Chris Christopherson. The score would remain unchanged going into halftime.
The second half was played evenly by both sides as they would each create few scoring opportunities. Neither side was able to light the lamp as they headed into overtime.
Lakeland seemed to be in control of its own destiny in the final frame, but was not able to capitalize. Marian’s Dane Fuchs took advantage of a loose ball in the game’s final minute to knock home the golden goal.
Muskies junior goalkeeper Joe Silverberg (South Bend, IN) was tested for 3 saves for the game.
The Muskies complete the regular season slate this weekend when they travel to Madison to play the Eagles of Edgewood at Breeze Stevens Stadium at 2:30 pm.
