Concordia dominates late, Muskie women drop second straight

RIVER FOREST, ILL. - Concordia University Chicago went on a 21-2 run late in the second half and the Lakeland College women's basketball team was dealt an 86-67 loss Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference play.

The Muskies shot just 32.3% in the second half and dropped their second straight game. Lakeland is now 7-10 overall and 5-5 in the NAC North Division, while the Cougars improved to 5-11 overall and 5-5 in the NAC South Division.

Jessica Genke, Krystyna Rickett and Kassy Koehler combined for 70 points for the Cougars. Taylor Jandrin (Jr.-Forestville, Wis.) hit a three-pointer to put Lakeland down 56-54 with 10:05 to play, but Genke and Koehler scored 20 of 21 points as the Cougars broke it open and led 77-56 with 4:37 left.

The Muskies trailed much of the way, leading a few times briefly early in the game and taking their last lead at 31-30 on a jumper by Lexie Greenheck (Fr.-Oostburg, Wis.) with 3:27 left before halftime. The Cougars finished the first half on a 15-5 run, taking a 45-36 lead at halftime.

Becky Mayo (Sr.-Gladstone, Mich.) had 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Lakeland, while Jandrin and Leah Eisner (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis.) both added 12 points each. The Muskies shot 38.3% for the game (23-of-60) but were out-rebounded 43-35.

Genke finished with 31 points and 12 rebounds, making 14 of 19 shots from the field. Rickett scored 20 and Koehler added 19 points, including five three-pointers. Concordia shot 33-of-67 (49.3%) for the game.

Lakeland is on the road again Tuesday when it travels to Milwaukee to face Alverno College at 7 p.m.
