WAUKESHA - For the third time this season, Lakeland College senior forward Jake Schwarz (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Schwarz received the award after three terrific games last week, with three consecutive double-doubles in a trio of Muskie wins. He averaged 26.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game over three games, shooting 56.6% from the floor, 43.5% from three-point range and 90.9% from the free throw stripe.
Schwarz had 30 points and 11 rebounds on Tuesday, hitting six three-pointers in Lakeland's 98-84 win over Northland International University. He then tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds in the Muskies' 95-65 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Thursday, and then led the team with 27 points and 12 rebounds in a 71-54 NAC win over Concordia University Chicago on Saturday.
Schwarz won the honor for the third time this season, and it comes with him on the brink of setting a new school career record for scoring. He currently sits third in Lakeland history with 1,972 career points, two points behind second-place Waymon Stewart (1965-69) and 36 points from tying the all-time mark of 2,008 points held by John Koslowski (1980-84).
Schwarz also currently leads the NAC in scoring with 24.6 points per game and ranks second in the conference in rebounding at 9.9 caroms per contest. He also paces the conference with 3.2 three-point field goals per game, ranks sixth in three-point shooting percentage (45.9%) and is seventh in field goal percentage (51.6%). Schwarz also currently ranks 10th nationally in NCAA Division III in scoring.
Lakeland returns to the floor Tuesday night when it travels to face Edgewood College in Madison at 7 p.m. The Muskies then will be home Thursday night to host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium. Live audio will be available Tuesday night and live video and audio of Thursday night's game will be available online at http://www.lakeland.edu/muskieslive.
