Men's Basketball Wins First Game

The Muskies Men's Basketball Team earned their first win of the season with a 73-60 defeat of Trinity International (IL) Saturday afternoon in Sheboygan. The Muskies improved to 1-3 while Trinity dropped to 1-9.

Lakeland held a thin 38-37 lead at the half behind 5 of 8 three-point shooting. The Muskie defense put the clamps on in the second half by holding Trinity to just 22 points, while scoring 36 of their own points for the difference.

Both teams struggled from the floor overall with Lakeland hitting on 39% (23 of 59) of their shots while Trinity connected on just 33.8% (22 of 65). The Muskies won the battle at the charity stripe by knocking down 21 of 25 attempts while Trinity managed just 11 of 16. Lakeland also won the battle of the boards 38-34 and committed just 12 turnovers.

Cory Nickel led Lakeland with 22 points and 7 assists, while Danny Jansson added 14 points. Morton Szmiedowicz chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Lakeland's next game is Tuesday night at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois at 7pm.
