Nickel Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone
Dec. 8, 2003

Senior guard Cory Nickel recently passed the 1,000 point barrier when the Muskies defeated North Central College last Tuesday (Dec. 3rd).

Nickel, from Pipe, WI and New Holstein High School, leads the team at 18.8 points per game this season through 6 games. The Muskies are currently 2-4 and are anxiously awaiting the return of senior guard Ricky Davis who is out with a broken foot. Davis is also expected to reach the 1,000 point milestone as he needs just 71 points.

Nickel averaged 9.0 points per game as a freshman when he scored 244 points in 27 games. As a sophomore Nickel scored 332 points when he averaged 13.3 points per game in 25 games. Last season as a junior he scored 351 points with a 13.0 average in 27 games.

It will be nearly impossible for Nickel to crack the top 10 in Lakeland scoring as the Muskies used to play several more games per year at the NAIA level. Since Lakeland switched to the NCAA Division III level in the early 90's, no Muskie has cracked the top 10. It would take a minimum of 1,416 points to be 10th all-time. John Koslowski owns the career men's mark with 2,008 points.
