Lakeland Tames The Sabres
Of Marian College
Feb. 11, 2004
Tonight the Lakeland
College Women's Basketball team hosted the Marian College Sabres for Senior
Night in the Todd Wehr Center. It was the final regular season home game of
the year for the Muskies as they looked to stay undefeated in conference. The
Muskies were successful in their efforts as they topped the Sabres by a score
of 67-50.
Marian College fell to an overall record of 9-14 and a 4-7 conference record. Lakeland, who had already clinched the 2003-2004 Lake Michigan Conference title, remained perfect with a 10-0 conference record and boosted their overall record to 18-5.
The Sabres were led by Christy Wilson who scored 20 points and had 3 blocks. The Muskies were led by Renee Steinert with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Jenna Boehm added 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Casey Thousand, the lone senior for the Muskies, scored 11 points, dished out
6 assists, and had 2 steals. Throughout her career, Lakeland's coaching staff
has turned to Thousand as a defensive specialist. Tonight she provided the Muskies
with a spark from behind the arch as she sank three 3-pointers.
"We knew that this was going to be a big game coming in because we had
a rough time with them at Marian when we played them," said Thousand.
The Muskies next game is on Saturday as they travel to Maranatha Baptist Bible
College for a 5:30 tip-off.
