Nov. 29, 2003

The Lakeland College Women's Basketball Team fell 91-51 to host UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening in the consolation game of the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Tournament. Lakeland dropped to 2-3 overall while Eau Claire improved to 4-1.

The Blugolds led the entire game with the exception of Lakeland scoring the first basket of the game. Eau Claire then went on a 19-2 run to take command of the game early on. But Lakeland rallied to cut the lead to seven with 7:19 left in the half. However the Blugolds responded with a 26-11 run of their own to end the half with a 50-28 lead.

Eau Claire gradually expanded the lead in the second half, outscoring Lakeland 41-23 for the final tally.

Aubri Rote led the Muskies with 16 points while Chasey Thousand added 13 and Jenny Boehm chipped in with 10 points.

Eau Claire won nearly every statistical category, out-rebounding the Muskies 42-23 and scoring 40 points in the paint to Lakeland's 14. The Blugold defense held Lakeland to just 37 percent from the floor and did not allow a single fast-break point.

In the championship game following the Muskie defeat, Morningside College from Iowa defeated Buena Vista University of Iowa 88-65 to claim the Thanksgiving Showcase title.

At the completion of the tournament the 2003 All-Tournament team was announced in which Brittany Carper of Morningside earned the Tournament Most Valuable Player award. Leafblad and Spaeth were named to the team from the Blugolds while Megan Cloud and Kate Lokken from Morningside and Amy Meggers from Buena Vista rounded out the team.

Lakeland's next game is this Tuesday when they host Dominican (IL) at 7pm.
