Daus puts up career high on Senior Night in Muskies' four-set win

Athletics - posted on 10/19/2012

Taylor Daus(Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) piled up a career high 22 kills on Senior Night and the Lakeland College women's volleyball team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering in four sets in a Northern Athletics Conference match Friday night.

The Muskies won their home finale for the season 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, clinching a spot in the upcoming eight-team NAC Tournament. Lakeland improved to 16-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play and moved into a tie for fifth in the NAC with Wisconsin Lutheran College with both teams having one regular season match to play.

Daus was the star of the night, rising to the occasion as the team's lone senior. She topped her previous career high of 19 kills set earlier in the season, opening with six kills in the Muskies lopsided first set win and then tallying six more kills in the third set and five more in the fourth. Daus converted 22 of 49 attack attempts in the match and finished with a .286 attack percentage.

Katie Freitag (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) added 12 kills and Amanda Dillman (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Anna Faust (Jr.-Cross Plains, Wis.) also both chipped in nine kills each. The Muskies hit .162 for the match with 56 kills to 30 errors in 160 attempts, and that number was dragged down by a second set in which Lakeland hit -.021 with 13 errors, as the Raiders (5-15 overall, 3-7 NAC) came from behind late to steal the second set.

Dillman heated up with six of her nine kills and three of her team-high four blocks in the last two sets and Tess Myklebust (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) led the way defensively in the last two sets with 16 of her 24 digs. Faust led Lakeland with 25 digs and Melissa Christiansen (Jr.-Valders, Wis.) added 19 digs.

Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) set the offense with 47 assists. Lakeland would lose a tiebreaker to Wisconsin Lutheran if both tie for position, but the Muskies can clinch the fifth seed in the NAC tourney with a win tomorrow at Rockford (Ill.) College and if Wisconsin Lutheran loses to conference tri-leader Benedictine (Ill.) University on Wednesday.

MSOE was led by Leah Hendricks with 16 kills and just two errors in 37 attack attempts. Stephanie Hasler added 10 kills and Martha Savory had 25 digs. The Raiders fell out of contention for the NAC Tournament with the loss and have two matches remaining in the season.

Lakeland concludes its regular season Saturday night at Rockford. The NAC Tournament begins Tuesday, Oct. 30 with quarterfinal play at campus sites.
