Lakeland College is State Agency Approved to certify all types of military benefits (with the exception of the Wisconsin GI Bill because we are a private College). The College's Veterans Coordinator, Carol Butzen, will process all appropriate paperwork on a semester-by-semester basis. You can reach Ms. Butzen by telephone at (920) 565-6581 or (800) 569-2166, extension 6581. Or, you can email her at butzencl@lakeland.edu. Her office is located in William A. Krueger, Room #115.
If you are unsure of your eligibility for benefits, please contact your local VA Service Office (located in your local courthouse), go to www.gibill.va.gov, or call the GI Bill Call Center at 1-888-GIBILL-1. Once you are certain of your eligibility, you can access all pertinent forms required to apply for your military benefits or to transfer your benefits to Lakeland College from another college or university by visiting www.gibill.va.gov. Complete all pertinent forms, and submit them electronically to St. Louis.
Veterans should notify Ms. Butzen of enrollment each term, and any changes in enrollment (add/drops/withdrawals). Failure to do so could result in benefits not being processed or in overpayments to veterans.
State veterans are required to pay tuition in full or make monthly payments. Students must have their tuition balance paid in full before Lakeland may submit completed paperwork to the State for reimbursement. State veterans accounts are not exempt from interest. Students must complete credit agreements and pay for their textbooks each semester. State forms should be sent to the Veterans Coordinator by the end of each semester. Once grades are processed, the Veterans Coordinator will complete all pertinent paperwork and send it in to the State for processing. The State will then issue payment directly to the student. Check with your local VA Service Officer for assistance on filing your State paperwork electronically.
Incoming students must complete the 22-1990 Application for VA Education Benefits to generate their benefits or the 22-1995 Change of Program or Place of Training to transfer their benefits over to Lakeland College. These students are required to make monthly installments, sign credit agreements, and pay for their textbooks each semester. These accounts are not interest exempt. The VA pays the student directly on a monthly basis throughout the semester, and the student is responsible for his/her own monthly payments to the College.
Currently, the amount the student is eligible to receive is $750.00 per course per term. Tuition assistance students are required to send the approved 2171 or 1227 to the Veterans Coordinator for processing. The College will then invoice for payment, and the payment will be sent directly to the College. Tuition assistance recipients' accounts are interest exempt. To determine your eligibility, please check with your unit.
These students are under a disabled military classification. The accounts are interest exempt. The students are not required to pay anything to the College. This includes the application fee, textbook costs and tuition. These students are required to complete the Credit Agreement.
Eligible students must complete the 22-1990 Application for VA Education Benefits form. Veterans must provide the Veterans Coordinator with a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility before any certifications can be processed. This program begins on August 1, 2009. Please visit www.gibill.va.gov for more information or to determine your eligibility.
These students are dependents of a family member who served in the military. All applicants must complete the 22-5490 Application for Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Application form to begin benefits or the 22-5495 Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance form to transfer the benefits to Lakeland College.
