Food Service

One of the most frequently asked questions Admissions Counselors hear is, "What’s the food like?" Well, here at Lakeland we can point with pride to the Silver Award we earned in 2009 for excellence in college dining as an example of the very high quality of food we prepare and serve. Due to the Dining Services philosophy that meal time is the most important social activity of the day, this great food is served in a friendly, casual atmosphere you will be sure to enjoy.

In Bossard Hall on the second floor of the Younger Family Campus Center, Blue & Gold Dining serves buffet style meals in an all you care to eat program. There are over 350 food and beverage items served each week, so there is always something for everyone - with Musko’s Deli, the Garden Fresh salad bar, Sweet Temptations desserts, the Fresh Fruit Stand, and the Breakfast Nook in addition to the more traditional cafeteria line. We even feature a Grab N Go section at lunch for those in a hurry... all for just scanning your Campus One Card at the entrance! Next Door to Blue & Gold Dining are the Muskie Inn’s Muskie Mart and Muskie Grill. There are more than 50 fast food favorites in the Muskie Grill and the Muskie Mart convenience store stocks more than 2,800 items. Both are open later than Blue & Gold Dining to provide additional convenience to students, faculty, staff, and guests. Muskie Money, cash, and Flex Meals are acceptable forms of payment.

The newest venue is the students' favorite coffee shop, The Daily Grind, with lattes, smoothies, and other great beverages. You will find it is "a latte better" than any other! It's located in the first floor Student Lounge of the Campus Center.

Students must use their Campus One (ID) Card for access to Blue & Gold Dining and may make Muskie Money or Flex Meal selections at all dining venues on campus. Cash is accepted in all locations. All resident students must select a meal plan (choices are listed under the Meal Plans section) and commuter students may select any meal plan as an option. Discount meal tickets may be purchased in the Business Office. Food may not be removed from Blue & Gold Dining unless otherwise noted. Meal times are posted near the entrances to all facilities. Services are limited during academic breaks but meal plan meals are not included during breaks so a nominal fee will be charged. The daily menu is posted on the campus intranet home page.

Because Dining Services is able to accommodate almost all nutritional needs, including special diets due to allergies, exemptions from the meal plans are generally prohibited. Contact the Director of Dining Services to discuss your particular needs.

The 18 full-time staff members look forward to providing great food and dining experiences for you. The Director brings more than 30 years of college dining experience and an MBA in Hospitality Management to Lakeland and is backed up by two chefs with a total of 40+ years experience as the Assistant Director for B&G Dining and as the Executive Chef. The Assistant Director for Catering has been at Lakeland for 22 years and the managers for the Muskie Inn and The Daily Grind have more than 34 years of collegiate management. All of us welcome you!

Food Plan Exemption Policy

No exemptions from participation in the College Food Plan will be granted to resident students. The College is working with a licensed dietitian to accommodate special dietary needs.
