Why Should I get involved?

Students get involved for many different reasons based on their individual needs and desires. What you get out of it varies with your individual contribution, but most students say they receive great personal success and have the most fun of their life being involved in college!

Academic Clubs

Accounting Club

To promote Lakeland College's Accounting Department, to provide a social forum for fun and educational accounting related experiences, and to increase student awareness of opportunities in the field of accounting.

Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP)

Provide a community for future information technology business professional to reach their true potential by providing networking, peer mentoring, knowledge sharing, and education programs for advancing technology and business skills.

Chemistry Enthusiasts

The Chemistry Club is a Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society and its goal is to foster interest in Chemistry and to help the public develop an appreciation for the way in which Chemistry has enriched their lives and contributed to the betterment of society in general.

Criminal Justice Club

To enable students involved in learning about the Criminal Justice system and what it has to offer through a variety of jobs and positions. This organization is open to criminal justice majors/minors but we encourage all students to join for amazing demo's and speakers.

Future Nonprofit Leaders

Future Nonprofit Leaders prepares students by enhancing understanding of, developing skills for, and building relationships within the nonprofit sector.

The History Club

Seeks to develop and foster an interest and the learning of history in a non-traditional way, through the use of field trips and work in the community and community schools. We are committed to finding entertaining and exciting ways to approach history while addressing topics of interest to students of the Lakeland College community.

Math Club

The Math Club at Lakeland College is a student organization that was started with an aim of promoting the college's mathematics department, to provide a social forum for fun and educational math-related experiences, and to increase student awareness of opportunities in mathematical fields. It provides an opportunity for interested students to experience Mathematics outside the classroom environment.

The Mirror

Editor in Chief: Stephanie Rebek

The Lakeland Mirror is the college newspaper. Students interested in news and feature writing, photography, creating cartoons, typing, editing, proofreading, and computer layout and design are invited to join the Mirror staff. You can earn one credit each semester by taking the Lakeland Mirror practicum class, which meets twice each week.

Mortar Board

Mortar Board Inc. is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership, and service provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.

Psychology Club

President: Lindsay Abler
The Psychology Club provides information about graduate schools, internships and jobs in the field of Psychology. Their purpose is to offer leadership and volunteer/service opportunities to Psychology students, to encourage Psychology majors to connect with each other and faculty, to encourage upper-level Psychology majors to mentor incoming Psychology students, and to facilitate recognition of the accomplishments of deserving Psychology majors through providing membership in the National Psychology Honor Society, Psi Chi.

Spanish National Honor Society

To honor those who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking peoples. To honor those who have made the Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known in the English-speaking world. To encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture. To foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech. To serve its membership in ways which will contribute to the attainment of the goals and ideals of the society.

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club's objectives are to promote interest in Latin culture and the Spanish community, to provide fellowship among students and faculty, to represent student needs and wants in regard to learning culture and communication, and to provide a forum for the presentation of innovative ideas to benefit of the College community.

Spectrum/Year-disc

President: Tarra Bourgeois

The Spectrum, Lakeland's CD year-disc, is produced by a staff of students in a one-credit practicum course which meets twice weekly during the lunch hour. Its purpose is to provide an overview of the year from the perspective of students. The year-disc format offers students an opportunity to learn about video editing and web page design. If you are interested in photography, video, webpage design or selling advertising, please join this exciting effort and gain valuable professional multimedia experience.

STE2M Club

The mission of the STE2M Club is to build and enrich the Lakeland community based on the academic values of the Natural Sciences.

Student WI Education Association

Student WEA is an organization that provides opportunities for future teachers to gain useful information and experience that will be helpful throughout their educational career, but also when they enter the workforce. To support public education for all students and the continuation of a strong professional association, the mission of Student WEA is to provide its members a voice in matters affecting their education and careers by offering opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and involvement at the local, state, and national levels.

Greek Organizations

Alpha Psi Alpha Sorority (ΑΨΑ)

President: Kayla Rushing

Established in March of 1999, Alpha Psi Alpha is the newest Greek organization on the LC campus. Alpha Psi Alpha exists to enhance trust, scholarship, family and sisterhood before all. These lady A's stand to enrich and contribute to the Lakeland community in which they live. They are a sorority that thrives on community service. Yearly community service, clothing and food drives, and working with Lakeland College on many service events.

Beta Sigma Omega Fraternity (ΒΣΩ)

President: Dontay Strong
Advisor: Jeffery Schwehm
Originally known on campus as the Black Student Organization, in 1986 a group of 20 men decided to become Greek to be more visible on campus. The Beta's have done many community service projects including Adopt-a-Highway, Boys & Girls Club service, and volunteering at regional walks. This fraternity is organized for the advancement of education, citizenship and community development.

Mu Lambda Sigma (ΜΛΣ)

President: Dale Sievert
Advisor: Christopher Moore
Founded in 1932, Mu Lambda Sigma is the oldest Greek chapter at Lakeland. They are strong in brotherhood, tradition, and pride. They are a diverse group of individuals, from all walks of life, who have come together for the good of all.

Phi Delta Omega Sorority (ΦΔΩ)

President: Rachel Nieman
Advisor: Brye Aanonsen
Founded in 1970, Phi Delta Omega owns a proud history of "service in threefold- God, community, and school." A diverse group in attitude and opinion, the Phi Delt's are involved on and off campus with various activities including Adopt-a-Highway, the Giving Tree, Teddy Bear Toss, and Sexual Assault Awareness Week. They also strive to achieve high academic standards and success for each of our members.

Pi Kappa Gamma Sorority (ΠΚΓ)

President: SarahAnn Eskridge
Advisor: Margaret Teske
Founded in 1968, Pi Kappa Gamma is the oldest sorority at Lakeland College. It was established to help women come forward, be recognized, and express themselves. They build strong, life-long friendships and practice trust and loyalty. The Pi Kappa's provide opportunities for friends to come together and share time to learn and grow while having fun.

Zeta Chi Fraternity (ΖΧ)

The Zeta Chi Fraternity has been an organization of excellence on the Lakeland College campus since 1933. They are a Greek organization focused on hard work and dedication. Through campus and community service, they are a brotherhood committed to diversity and open-mindedness. Overall, this fraternity is an organization based on fun, trust, and friendship, enveloped with a brotherhood that is ever true to Zeta Chi.

Inter-Greek Council (IGC)

IGC is the governing board for all six social chapters. IGC as well helps promotes goodwill with Greeks, plan social events, and puts together events for campus.

Religious and Spiritual Organizations

Spiritual Life Council (SLC)

Spiritual Life Council is the student programming board for spiritual life at Lakeland College. This group bring students together who have interests that are religious in nature, but diverse in expression. Programs and events hosted by SLC support education, justice, worship, service and expression.

Special Interest Organizations

Badminton Club

The purpose of this organization is to provide an opportunity for every student to enjoy their college life and release their stress by playing badminton and building friendships with each other. Also, we are promoting badminton to people that are not familiar with it and try to make this sport become popular.

Black Student Union (BSU)

The Black Student Union promotes the awareness of the African-American culture on campus and seeks to identify relevant issues and initiate appropriate action in order to support the needs of our African-American students to ensure their social, cultural, and academic success. It will also seek to provide enriching experiences and assure continuing development of progressive environment which is conducive to our African-American students in their quest to obtain a quality and meaningful education.

Community Service Initiative

CSI is dedicated to making community service a positive and rewarding experience for all involved. Their mission is to help communities through service. We will keep our neighbors best interest in our minds at all times. We will organize groups to volunteer for neighbors and strive to nurture positive attitudes toward community service.

Dance Team

The Lakeland College Dance Team was established as an alternative physical activity in order to form fellowship, character, and expression through dance. We strive to establish a tradition of dance performance in the Lakeland Community.

EcoFriends

The purpose of EcoFriends is to educate and show how to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle through programming. It helps produce a more eco-friendly campus by showing how to recycle and the benefit of being and thinking Eco!

Global Student Association

To promote, celebrate and embrace cultured diversity and integration among students different race, sex, belief, age, sexual orientation, and cultural backgrounds.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian based, housing ministry that works to eliminate poverty housing.Habitat contends that every man, woman and child should have a decent, affordable, safe place to live.Lakeland's Habitat Chapter participates in local builds, hosts fundraisers and participates in a annual spring break trip.

Japanese Students Association (JSA)

The purpose of JSA is to bridge the gap between Japanese students and other students, to inform others about Japanese culture, and to help Japanese students at LCJ (Lakeland College Japan campus) have a better understanding about what Lakeland College and Wisconsin has to offer.

Lakeland College Campus Activities Board (LC-CAB)

LC-CAB provides the Lakeland College campus with a varied program of social, cultural, and recreational activities. In addition to planning Family Weekend, Homecoming, Welcome Week, and Spring Fling, LC-CAB plans and promotes a variety of programs including comedians and concerts and they are open for all to help and participate. They are the programming board for all of campus.

Lakeland College Chinese Student Association

The purpose of CSA is to promote Chinese culture on campus and in the community.

Lakeland College Gay Straight Alliance

This organization aims to help stop bullying and to create a safer school. They also work on spreading equality for everyone regardless of gender, race and sexual orientation. The inclusive group gives the opportunity for all students to be who they are and to support others.

Ski and Snowboard Association

This organization's purpose is to bring Lakeland Colleges students closer as a student body through activities that promote being active and outdoors.

Student Association (SA)

SA's purpose is to further and enhance the goals and objectives of Lakeland College; to further communication between students, faculty and administration; to provide a representative body through which we may participate in the formulation of institutional policy affecting students to ordain and establish this constitution of the Student Association of Lakeland College

Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC)

This purpose of SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunities for all student-athletes, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image while maintaining the tenants of the NCAA Division III philosophy.

Theatricians

Theatricians exists to enrich and contribute to the creative culture of Lakeland College and the surrounding community. We promote student involvement, knowledge and hands-on practical experience in the many aspects of the Creative Arts.

 

Musical Groups

National Association for Music Education (NAfME)

National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Members of the Lakeland College Chapter of NAfME believe that music allows us to celebrate our cultural heritage through creativity and new knowledge. Therefore, everyone should be offered the opportunity to learn music and to share in musical experiences.

Frauenchor (Women's Choir)

Membership in this choral ensemble is open to all Lakeland women upon audition. The choir will present three or four concerts on campus. Treble choral literature from the Renaissance to the twentieth century is studied and performed. Music written especially for female voices will be emphasized.

Lakeland College Bands

60+ member Concert Band, 30 member Muskie Pep Band, 18 piece Jazz Ensemble, numerous chamber ensembles. All Lakeland College students with previous band experience, regardless of academic major, are encouraged to keep playing in these vibrant ensembles!

Lakeland College Concert Choir

Membership in this choral ensemble is open to all Lakeland students upon audition. The choir tours annually, presents four concerts on campus and several concerts at off-campus churches and schools. A diverse repertoire of choral literature is performed including masterworks with orchestral accompaniment. The Concert Choir performs regularly with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.

Symphony Orchestra

Membership in the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra is open to all Lakeland College students who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. The symphony performs challenging literature from all musical eras and provides accompaniment for several prominent guest artists each season. Prospective symphony members must complete a successful audition for the conductor.

Becoming involved in your hall can create a strong community focused on your academic and personal wellbeing. In each residence hall, a hall council is selected to address any concerns or questions of residents and to program various hall activities. These leadership positions are great opportunity to work as a team with fellow residents, hall staff and the Department of Residence Life.
