Lakeland honoring former Trustee during Commencement weekend

Alice K. SentyLakeland College will honor a former member of its Board of Trustees during its 145th Commencement this weekend.

Alice K. Senty of Sheboygan, a Lakeland Trustee from 1994-2006, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to recognize a lifetime of civic engagement and service to her community during Sunday's Commencement Ceremony.

Senty earned her bachelor's degree in journalism and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and did post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota, Lakeland and Silver Lake College. She has served on the Board of Directors for many Sheboygan-area organizations, including the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, the United Way Campaign, the American Red Cross-Sheboygan, the Sheboygan Retirement Home, the Mid-America Region of the National YMCA's, Friends of the Mead Public Library, Lakeshore Chorale and a number of collegiate-related organizations.

Senty was elected the first female president of the Sheboygan County YMCA in 1977. She has also served on Lakeland's Church Relations Board, was on the State Board of the United Church of Christ and has served her church, First Congregational UCC in Sheboygan, in numerous roles including the Board of Deacons.

She has received numerous awards, including the UW Outstanding Alumni Award from UW Alumni Club of Sheboygan, the Lifetime Service Award, Distinguished Service Award and Key Leaders Award from the Sheboygan County YMCA and she was awarded a lifetime membership from the American Association of University Women to commemorate her 50th year of membership in 2004. She has also been honored as a 50-year member of her church.
