The Lakeland College men's and women's basketball teams open postseason play on Saturday-one at home, the other on the road-in their respective Northern Athletics Conference tournaments.
The top-seeded Muskie men will host No. 8 seed Marian (Wis.) at 2 p.m. in the NAC men's tourney quarterfinals. Later on, the eighth-seeded Lakeland women will travel to Milwaukee to take on No. 1 Wisconsin Lutheran at 7 p.m. in the NAC women's quarterfinals.
The Lakeland men swept a pair of games over Marian this season by close margins, including a 78-68 win over the Sabres on Tuesday in both team's regular season finale. The Muskies wrapped up the outright NAC North Division title and top seed in the men's tournament, as well as homecourt advantage as long as they are alive.
The Lakeland women lost to Wisconsin Lutheran 69-58 in Milwaukee but were very competitive in the two teams' only meeting of the regular season on Jan. 26. The Muskies clinched a spot in the tourney on the final day of the regular season with a 63-39 win over MSOE on Wednesday, while the Warriors were a perfect 17-0 in NAC play and have been receiving votes in numerous NCAA Division III national polls.
Saturday's men's game will also feature the debut of the new Musko mascot, making his first-ever public appearance at a Lakeland sporting event. Also, Lakeland is sending a fan bus down to Milwaukee for the women's game at Wisconsin Lutheran. Interested students should sign up in Bossard Hall, and the bus will leave from in front of the Wehr Center at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Live audio, video and statistics of the Lakeland/Marian game will be available on Saturday at http://www.lakeland.edu/muskieslive. Wisconsin Lutheran will be carrying a live broadcast of Saturday night's game at http://www.youtube.com/wlcsports.
