Alumni, friends enjoy 20th annual Blasters Golf Tournament

A total of 50 Lakeland College graduates, along with many others, competed in the 20th Annual Blasters Golf Tournament at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls on June 15. The tournament drew over 150 alumni and friends of the college throughout the day

The Blasters is the sole fundraiser for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship endowment fund at Lakeland which offers financial aid and book awards to relatives of Mission House/Lakeland College alumni. The fund has awarded over $60,000 to deserving students.

Corporate sponsors of this year's event were Bella's Custom Design, Inc., Bemis Manufacturing Company, Carters, Inc. and Sargento Foods, Inc.

The winner of the Open Division was the Fab Four from Texas, which included 1974 graduate Dave Voskuil and his friends Bobby Cornett, Chris Sanchez and Jake Schrum.

Koch & McCann S.C. won the Corporate Division title. The winning team was made up of Lakeland Trustee Kellett Koch, Dain Maddox, Jim McCann and Terry Winarski.

This year, five students were selected to receive the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be a blood relative of a Lakeland graduate, have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and have financial need.

This year's winners are:

Bobbie Johnson, a junior majoring in non-profit management, psychology and sociology. Her husband, Donald Johnson Jr., is a 2004 Lakeland graduate who earned his master of business administration from Lakeland in 2006. She is actively involved in the American Humanics Student Association.

Corey Petzold, a senior majoring in German, history and secondary education. He is a relative of Cal Schaub `60, Craig Schaub `85, Mark Schaub `87 and Gayle Schaub `86. He is involved in soccer and Stammtisch.

Jodi Schneider, a junior majoring in international business. Her brother, David, is a 2003 Lakeland graduate. She is involved in Conversation Partners and Spanish Club.

Gina Schibur, a senior majoring in elementary education and minoring in early childhood. Her sister, Heather Specht-Klahn, is a 1997 Lakeland graduate.

Jennifer Graff, a junior majoring in non-profit management with a minor in mathematics and psychology. Her mother, Cheryl Graff, is a 1998 Lakeland graduate who earned her MBA in 2002. She is involved in the Phi Delta Omega Sorority, American Humanics Student Association and the Intergreek Council.

The Blasters Committee was also able to distribute seven book awards to assist the following students purchase text books for the 2007-08 academic year: Jessika Bragg, David Lutz, Zachary Ford, Emily Rendall, Tina Schuh, Tyler Thiesfeldt and Vong Xiong.
