- ABOUT LAKELAND

We are looking for Lakeland College alumni who are aviation professionals; pilots, instructors, or others involved in the aviation industry. If you are involved in this field, please contact Lisa Vihos, director of alumni relations at vihoslb@lakeland.edu.
Whether you are an aviation professional or not, please join us on Saturday, April 17, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for the fourth annual Alumni College. This year includes the return of some favorite presenters such as Kathy Rath-Marr '76, Cal Potter '68, Emilie Lindemann '06, and Charlie Krebs. We are also introducing many new alumni, faculty, and community presenters offering a wide variety of topics including everything from the hard sciences to social networking; from theology and studio art to identity theft and rock and roll. This year's Alumni College offers several sessions on the environment including "Intruders in Our Waters: Current Research and Lakeland Student Coursework," which will be given by Martin Hobmeier '09. Hobmeier is currently a doctoral student in biological sciences at Michigan Technical University. He will be joined by Paul Pickhardt, Lakeland College assistant professor of biology. Vickie Hall, the executive director of Glacial Lakes Conservancy, will present "Saving Land: the Work of Glacial Lakes Conservancy." A panel discussion in the afternoon focuses on "Local Foods: The New Food Economy," and will be moderated by adjunct faculty member Chris Goebel. The day ends with a special local foods reception called "A Taste for Everyone," highlighting the products of local growers and entrepreneurs.
There will be sessions on health and fitness, entrepreneurship, advocating for people with disabilities, drawing a self portrait, singing, yoga, poetry writing, memoir writing, and money management. There truly is something for everyone, and we hope you will be inspired to come refresh your thinking on a favorite subject or try your hand at something completely new.
