First-Seeded Muskies Advance To Second Round of LMC Tournament
Athletics - posted on 2/17/2006
The Lakeland Muskies shot 50 percent in the first half to help propel them to a Lake Michigan Conference quarterfinal win over Maranatha, 53-28.
The Muskies outscored the Crusaders 19-2 in the first 12 minutes of the game, and held Maranatha to just eight points in the first half.
"I'm happy we got out of the game healthy because sometimes crazy things can happen," said coach Arvan.
Sophomore Jenna Boehm led all scorers, pouring in 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds for the Muskies.
"They covered Kristi (Thill) well," Boehm said, "so our guards just looked inside to get me the ball."
Senior Beth Porter added eight points, six rebounds and two blocks in the winning effort for the Muskies.
Tomorrow, the Muskies will play host to Marian College, who upset Wisconsin Lutheran on a game winning lay-up by Amanda Mirr with three seconds left in the game. Saturday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Saturday's other semi-final round game includes #2 seed Concordia playing host to #3 Edgewood in Mequon.
"I think that everyone in this semifinal round can win the whole tournament," said coach Arvan.
